Definition | A <YIELD POINT> is a <STRESS> at which a substantial amount of plastic deformation takes place under constant or reduced load. This sudden yielding is a characteristic of iron and annealed steels. In other metals, plastic deformation begins gradually and its incidence is indicated by measuring the proof stress, which, however, is frequently called the yield point |
